On October 24^th, an energetic group of people at WomanWell to create a spiritual and ecological landscape. The intergenerational group of participants was from St. Catherine University, WomanWell, Cretin-Derham Hall, Benilde-St. Margaret’s, St. Joseph Worker, and CSJs and Consociates. The day began with a ritual which allowed participants to reflect upon all that Earth offers. Under the direction of Roxanne Stuhr, the participants learned about planting grasses, flowers, and trees for a rain garden landscape. Participants also constructed a labyrinth and began visioning a sculptural piece. The intended purpose of the sculpture is to create a work of art that aids people in their reflection and interaction with this site. During the final reflection, people expressed gratitude for the opportunity of working together on a common project. The staff at WomanWell is very grateful; Delmarie Gibney, Director of WomanWell, wrote:

How does one thank a group of volunteers from St. Joseph Workers, St. Catherine University, Cretin-Derham Hall, Benilde-St. Margaret’s--all who brought such wonderful energy, enthusiasm and generosity to the process of creating a labyrinth and the first of several gardens to be created at WomanWell. They gifted us with their presence and dedicated services on two Saturdays in October—some people worked both days. Roxanne Stuhr, the landscape designer, directed the work starting with a ritual to honor each one present, Earth, the plants, bushes and trees that were to be planted. The gardener and artist in each person were called forth on both days.

Observing the care and gentleness with which these volunteers tended Earth and the plants was indeed a gift. We at WomanWell feel we were graced with their presence on both occasions. Reflecting on the special time with the volunteers we have named our ongoing landscape project Gardens of Grace! It is with deep gratitude we will remember our volunteers knowing that without them these beautiful gardens and labyrinth would not be here for all to enjoy!
