Food Access Hub

Addressing food insecurity, nutrition and personal wellness
The St. Kate’s/CSJ Food Access Hub is a collaboration between the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet (CSJ) and St. Catherine University to address food insecurity, nutrition, and personal wellness needs within and beyond the St. Kate’s and St. Mary’s Health Clinic communities. This project centers student leadership and is supported by staff from CSJ Community Engagement, and St. Kate’s Center for Spirituality and Social Justice. The Food Access Hub encompasses the food shelf at 1890 Randolph Ave. and a network of community gardens, and supports several different sustainability initiatives.

How do I support the Food Shelf?
If you are interested in supporting the St. Kate’s food shelf, please donate here, choose the gift designation drop-down option “St. Kate’s/CSJ Food Access Hub.”
Your donation will go directly to the fight against food insecurity in the St. Kate’s community. Personal hygiene products and monetary contributions are especially appreciated. For every dollar donated we are able to purchase $4.00 of food and personal care items from local food banks.
What are the Food Access Hub Sustainability Projects?
The bee hives, pollinator pathways, and St. Kate’s community garden behind the CdC are all BioClub sustainability initiatives that we help support. We initiate and support waste-reduction, compost and recycling system upgrades and food recovery on both CSJ and St. Kate’s campuses. We coordinate and collaborate on environmental sustainability events such as Earth Day, MPLS/St. Paul Bee Run, and CSJ Service Days. Additionally, we work with the CSJ Justice Commission to implement our Congregational Laudato Si’ Action Plan and the St. Kate’s Sustainability Committee to develop and implement their Laudato Si’ Action Plan.

2025 Highlights
2025 was our 21st Anniversary year. We began the season by setting up our low tunnels to allow earlier gardening and ended it with a festive celebration complete with a potluck featuring produce from our gardens. In the end, we grew over 700lbs of food and donated nearly 50% to the food shelf.
