Mourning and Inspiration of Pope Francis

With deep sorrow and profound gratitude, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet mourn the passing of Pope Francis, a humble servant of God whose life embodied compassion, justice, and mercy.

His unwavering commitment to the poor, to creation, and to building bridges across faiths and cultures inspired millions and called the global Church to a deeper expression of love and inclusivity.

Pope Francis led with courage, tenderness, and vision—always placing the dignity of the human person at the center of his ministry. He reminded us that to follow Christ is to walk with the marginalized and to care for our common home.

We join the world in grieving his loss and in giving thanks for the gift of his life. May his legacy continue to guide us, and may he rest in the eternal peace of God, whom he served so faithfully.

—Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, St. Paul Province

The passing of Pope Francis is a time of sadness but also a blessed opportunity to reflect upon the impacts of his pastoral challenges and guidance throughout his papacy.  Encyclicals such as Laudato Si’ or Dilexit Nos have invited deeper faith-filled discernment, a strengthening of our community’s commitments to respond to the crisis of the earth, and actions of encounter, solidarity, and justice.
