Spiritual Direction

Spiritual Direction is a meeting with a director who is trained in the art of spiritual listening. It nurtures a deeper relationship with the spiritual aspect of being human in relationship with the divine. A space is created for one to learn and grow in their spirituality. Persons seeking direction share stories of their encounters of the divine, or how they are experiencing spiritual issues. It is not counseling or psychotherapy. The Christian practice of spiritual direction dates back to the third and fourth centuries when people sought the wisdom of the desert mystics.

If you seek spiritual direction, the following Spiritual Directors are available to support you on your journey.

Spiritual Directors

Mary Lamski, CSJ, received her spiritual direction training and was certified many years ago.  She has been giving spiritual direction and retreats for a wide diversity of age groups and backgrounds for over 40 years in Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota and California.  Her degrees are in education, theology, and ministry.  She has served in hospital, parish, campus and diocesan ministries.  Mary enjoys meeting people, listening and assisting them in their own unique spiritual journeys.

Call or email her for an individual, confidential spiritual direction appointment at 651-695-5387 and/or mlamskicsj@gmail.com.

Jill Underdahl, CSJ, M.A. degrees in Irenic Studies (peace and conflict transformation) and nonprofit management, has worked with young adults in spirituality, social justice, and English education for 20+ years. As a trained spiritual director, she helps people across generations to listen to what is in the unfolding of their lives and be with the wonder, feelings, and questions they have.

During a typical session, a person might talk about one’s life in an intimate way: the quality of important relationships, attitude toward work or career, hopes and concerns, goals and struggles, memories and curiosities. In this sharing there may be a reflection on shifts of feelings and thoughts, and inspirations and challenges as they exist for you.  As a spiritual listener, Jill asks questions that may help one look more deeply or differently at stories told — broadening and shifting perspectives.  All of this may uncover ways a person is experiencing the divine’s presence in the movement of life.

Cost: $60 per session. Typically, spiritual guidance sessions are 60 minutes every 4-6 weeks. The first session is an opportunity for you to meet Jill and to learn more about spiritual guidance.

Call or email her for an individual, confidential spiritual direction appointment at junderdahl@csjstpaul.org or 651-696-2873.
